Welcome to the Import Showdown Official Site
The Import Showdown is the southeast hottest sportsman drag racing event. Our event is by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. We offer a unique mix of test and tune runs (open, non competition) with sportsman focused competitions. We offer classes that appeal to novices and daily drivers, all the way to serious competitors.
Our event is open is any make or model vehicle, import or domestic, running any setup, as long as they meet track safety requirements for Test and Tune. Competitions have cylinder, driveline, power adder, tire, and other regulations. We also allow motorcylces to run Test and Tune.
The Import Showdown is put on by volunteer members of GA DSM. The event is not for profit, as 95+% of all funds are turned back into the event.
Annoucement: Import Showdown Drag Racing To Return in Spring 2009
We've decided to skip the Fall 2008 drag racing, and choose instead to return in the Spring of 2009 (with an expected Fall 2009 as well of course). I'm sure this will generate a few rumors, let me go ahead and knock a few you will like hear by saying why. Let me just say that the Import Showdown is stronger than ever, coming off of two absolutely crazy years in terms of turnout and growth of the event! We absolutely are not going away, canceling, or turning out backs on this event!
1) The Import Showdown is entirely volunteer run. What most people don't see is the 100s of hours put in before each event to get everything scheduled, promoted, designed, etc, etc. Due to other commitments, a number of key volunteers simply do not have the time needed to make the commitment.
2) We are actually restructuring (both figuratively and legally) the Import Showdown to allow us to actually do more things, but won't be complete in time to do a Fall drag race. This will mean great things, but with some short term pain.
3) There were a handful of other challenges and organization issues (track scheduling for example) which would have made the task of putting this together in time harder. Which combined with #1 and #2 taking so much of our already limited time, we decided we needed to make it easier, not harder.
I'm sure this annoucement will upset a few people, but it's all for the best. The support for this event has always been amazing and we look forward to continuing to bring the best sportsman drag racing event to the southeast! This will give us the opportunity to come back bigger and stronger for 2009! We have some VERY, VERY big plans for 2009. In fact, we're still going to do events this year, as we are still actively planning out 2008 Track Day (Road course). Expect an annoucement with scheduling and some details very soon regarding this.
To kill some rumors:
1) No, we're not giving up. No.
2) No, we're not hurting for sponsors or attendees. We have had better turnout than we ever have had over the past few events
3) No, we're not tired of doing it. In fact, we want it bigger and better!
4) No, Track days aren't replacing drag days. Track Days, by volume of work is 1/10th the effort of the drag days. This is the only reason we are still able to get one together this year.
5) No, the Import Showdown is not being sold - it's being run by the same people who have always brought you the Import Showdown.
Once again, to those disappointed I truly apologize we had to come to this decisions and all I can do is assure you once again, we will be back, and we will be better and bigger than before!
Spring 2008 Recap

Another great year! Turnout was strong with nearly 1000 spectators and 175 cars! We saw the fastest competition pass made to date at an Import Showdown with Clark taking the Showdown class with an 8.88 pass! We saw some great racing and like all Import Showdowns there was a great diversity of cars! The weather was absolutely beautiful, with only a handful of small clouds against a blue sky. We could not have asked for better weather!
As always we want to thank all of the Spectators, Racers, Sponsors, and Volunteers! We cannot ever stress enough that is event is entirely volunteer driven and we turn just about every penny back into Import Showdown events! This year the volunteers had to work even harder as we had some changes that took every effort to make the event run smoothly. Also a big thank you to our sponsors Spec Clutches and Flywheels, AAM Racing Engines, and 4GPerformance!
First, lets get a few of the areas we've noticed and heard we need to improve on. We attempted to keep the staging lanes open during the competitions to maximize test and tune time. Instead, due to a misunderstanding with the track officials it meant people sat during competitions. We apologize for this and will adjust for the next Import Showdown to avoid this. Also, there were a few people who have fairly unique setups that didn't met the requirements of some of the less competitive classes, but weren't really fast enough to compete in the higher classes. We have heard many of your suggestions and as always, we look at all suggestions and see where we can make improvements.
We are already looking forward to the next Import Showdown events, including the return of the Import Showdown Track Day (road course) as well as the fall Import Showdown! We are working on getting the results up as we speak and we will also have video and tons of pictures shortly! So continue to check back all of this week for more information, videos, and pictures of the event.
Thanks again for making the Import Showdown The Premiere sportsman events in the southeast!

The Import Showdown needs your help. One of our racers recently had their car stolen. Although it wasn't stolen from the Import Showdown, he was a competitor at our Spring event and is offering a $3000 reward. Since he car was at our event and drew a lot of attention, we are hoping one of our other attendees recongizes the car and can provider information.
A few final thoughts on the Spring 2008 - we are expecting beautiful weather tomorrow. Partly cloud and highs in the low 80s. Should be perfect weather for Drag Racing! However, with the nice weather, don't forget the long pants if you are racing. Also, if you are a fan of Road Courses/Track Days, we are going to be giving away a pass to the 2008 Import Showdown Track Day! (The date of the Import Showdown is TBD)
