Fall 2007 Recap

Well another Import Showdown is in the books!  A great event with over 140 cars making passes on Sunday, another 75 on Saturday.  Nearly 1200 people attended the event.  As usual the Fall event was a little smaller than the Spring event.  However, there was plenty of test and tune and great competitions.  The fields were as tight as they have even been, with many competition races decided by hundreths of seconds!  Not to mention as many upsets as we've seen at the Import Showdown, with so many "underdogs" pulling off upsets of cars that qualified much faster.  Once again the Gran Nationals take home the Showdown trophy, giving them a clean sweep for the year!  Though the domestics, they great competitors and fit within the rules of the event.  This was actually an example of any upset, as Clark in his Supra ran a faster ET in the Showdown finals, but red lighted giving the Grant National the win.  Videos of all of the competition finals coming soon!

We know there were some concerns regarding the state of the track prep as well as some concerns regarding some of the track officials themselves.  In most other years we got track prep between each competition round, rather than just once in the morning before an entire day of running.  We will discuss this, and several other concerns with the folks at SDR.

As always we would like to thank our attendees, volunteers, and sponsors for continuing to make this event the premiere sportman drag racing event in the southeast.  This event is truly by racers for racers.  We always welcome constructitive suggestions on how we can improve the event or the competitions!  However, we will let the cat out a little bit - look for some bigger changes to the Import Showdown for 2008!  We already eyeing more classes, more time, and much much more!!  You will want to check back with us to find out more!!!  We also want to ensure that everyone knows that this event is 100% volunteer run.  Many our of volunteers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money to drive to the track, get hotel rooms, food, and more - often without having much of an opportunity to run their cars or watch - to help ensure this event happens!!!  We can't thank them enough, as the Import Showdown wouldn't exist without them.  Finally we would like to thank our 2007 Sponsors: S3 Magazine, AAM Racing Engines, 4GPerformance, SPEC Clutches and Flywheels, Autofab Motorsports, Southern Car Customs, and Lethal Injection for their support.

We tuned for video, pictures, and results - as well as information about the 2008 Import Showdown!!!!

It is a non-profit event where 95% or more of the funds raised are put into the event. If you haven't made it to an Import Showdown event, you don't know what you are missing! If you have been, well you know you can’t miss it! The Import Showdown is one of the southeast's hottest and fastest growing sportsman drag racing events. Our event combines fun with well thought out competitions! We also offer lots of test and tune time for those who just want to make open passes and not compete in the competition. Last spring we drew a crowd of about 300 racers and 2000 spectators. We paid out and gave away over $3000 in cash, prizes, and giveaways over the two days! This event appeals to everyone. Whether you just want an opportunity to make open passes during test and tune time, compete in the actual competition, or just come out and watch and support an awesome event, we have everything for you in this family friendly environment!

This event is open to everyone! Any vehicle or bike, import or domestic is welcome to make passes as long as they can meet track safety requirements; you can run any setup. Competition rules are based on tire choice, power adders, number of cylinders, and other factors. Please see our website for competition rules and classes.

For Fall 2007, we're keeping the expanded test and tune time! We now offer at least an additional hour of strictly test and tune time to Sunday! We're also keeping the added test and tune time Saturday night. This is the perfect time to do some last minute adjustments before the competition on Sunday. We've adjusted our competition classes slightly to allow those who are more competitive to compete with each other, and those who are just interested in 'bragging rights' to compete with each other. The adjustments have made for better competition with some very entertaining races. For spectators we have more giveaways and entertainment! Saturday is going to be a very relaxed evening, with open passes. Sunday will include vendors, giveaways, and entertainment along with the competition and additional test and tune time.
